Chopper Tattoo – The Best Place for Ink and Design

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

I got my first tattoo many years ago while I was in the service. It was towards the end of one of those epic bar hops on my first shore leave in Bangkok. A bunch of mates and I were all a little too inebriated and a little too happy to be far away from home all on our own and we felt then that this ink we then tattooed on our arms somehow symbolized this new found freedom.

Well, I’m a lot older now and as I look at that stamp of an anchor and “Semper Fi” stenciled quite sloppily on my upper right arm, I have a different view and that first ink has found a different and quite a new and profound meaning. While it once meant freedom and independence it now symbolizes youth and innocence and a time in my life where these things were not appreciated back then but looked back upon now with fond memories and sense of pride serving my country as a young man.

Now older, I am often asked after I got serious about the art I put on my body, if I want to remove that first tattoo and even replace it with a more, well… ‘professional’ looking tattoo by a real artist and not some drunk Thai with dirty needles scaring young service members for a handful of Baht.

I thought long and hard about it but I realized that this first tattoo needs to stay just the way it is as the time and design are part of the memory. And even now with some of the Tattoo world’s greatest artist’s work now adorning my skin, I treasure that first tattoo as much as, if not more than, each and every piece of work on my body.

Of course I am now, or at least like to think so, much wiser in my mid 30s (slowly approaching 40) and am now very careful about design and choice of ink. I think long and hard mixing word and pictures designing the art I choose to display on my own personal walking canvas. I now use a tremendous amount of care and much thought and deliberation often taking months and in one case, even years, getting each design just right before committing ink to body.

Part of this journey from drunken youth with shirt pulled off with one hand and cheap Thai beer in the other letting some unskilled amateur hack with tools and ink older than I was scar my body to tattoo aficionado carefully crafting works of art seeking out only the best body ink artisans to adorn my skin has been the evolution of design.

Part of this has been greatly aided with the advancement of the Internet as this sub-culture has grabbed hold with both hands this technology and now finding and designing the perfect tattoo is now easier than ever. And what a joyous day it was when I found the site Chopper Tattoo as it is by far the best option after many years of searching for a community and design shop which could help me.

Chopper Tattoo has literally thousands and thousands of designs and ideas which let me pick and choose, mix and match designs to the point when I go looking for the artist to transform my vision to a work of art, there is little question of the direction and intent.

While I still adore the first lazy anchor with its sloppy un-aligned text of my first ink, my tattoos now are much better and the evolution was helped nowhere greater than with the aid of Chopper Tattoo and its wonderful catalog of tattoo designs.

Man, no way! I was a member of this site a while ago and their catelog of tattoos is nowhere near any of the many other sites available! Bad review. Buyers beware!

Whoops… I’m a little embarassed! Chopper Tattoos was not the site I belonged to. I checked again and this was not the site I joined a while back. I looked at Chopper Tattoo and then joined and this review is spot on. There are THOUSANDS of designs! Sorry for the confusion but I also suggest joining this site! Happy camper here and now I’m off to design my next tat!

very satisfied member here too :-) I was told by one of the moderators of that site that membership may increase soon as they are hiring better artists and increasing their catelog even more. I got in now and am VERY happy about it!

Cheers for the mention! I am one of the site developers and also a client! (sounds like one of those hiar replacemnet ads doesn’t it? LOL), Chopper Tattoo is by far the best on the market. I use it myself for all my tattoo designs and recommend to all who are serious about their ink. Yes, it’s that good. BTW, it’s true. The price may be going up (a lot) as we are adding mega content to the site but if we do raise membership all current members will have their membership price locked in for as long as they’re members.
